Looking for a simple tool for color illustrations? That way!
Today we will consider the favorite material of all sketchers – alcohol markers .
Alcohol markers are a versatile tool that suits a wide variety of illustrations. Architecture, fashion, book illustration, manga, interiors, comics, industrial design – all this can be embodied in alcohol-based markers.
The ink of such markers is alcohol-based and has a wide color palette. The colors mix well and lay on top of each other, dry quickly and then do not wash out with water.
One of the advantages is that such markers can almost always be refilled using special refills , ink tubes with a narrow nose. And if the nib of a marker has become unusable, it is also easy to replace it, almost all manufacturers produce markers with replaceable nibs and sets of replaceable nibs for them.
There are 3 types of feathers: chisel (different widths and shapes), bullet and brush. Please note that the shape and firmness of the tip may vary slightly depending on the brand. Keep in mind
when storing and using markers :
It is recommended to store markers only horizontally – especially true for markers with a double tip. This will ensure that ink flows evenly into both nibs. When stored upright, one of the nibs may dry out and the other will begin to “leak” and stain ink at work.
Alcohol markers from different brands mix well with each other.
The ink is not resistant to sunlight, so if you plan to place your work on the wall, it is better to cover it with a protective varnish with a UV filter.
To avoid drying out markers, it is recommended not to store them in the sun or near radiators or heating devices.
After air travel, markers may blot and splatter ink for a while. Just wait a while and everything will be fine.
You can find out the color number and shade name by looking at the marker body. The color and number will be indicated on the cap. For some manufacturers, the color on the cap may differ slightly from what it will look like on paper.
Alcohol markers work well on most types of paper, but we recommend drawing on special marker paper – this will help save ink and the drawing will spread less. Specialty paper is available in sheets, gluing albums and sketchbooks.
Drawing on loose paper will use ink much faster, but you can get a slight “watercolor” effect as the ink spreads and soaks into the texture of the paper.
When working with alcohol markers, do not forget about other materials. They work very well with liners, ink, gel pens and colored pencils. By combining materials, you can add different textures or highlight important accents.
(!) All of the above materials should be applied over alcohol markers to avoid damage to the pen.
Alcohol markers are a great option for urban open air. After all, even with a minimal set of markers , you can create luscious sketches and vivid illustrations.
